Risk evaluation

Legionella spp. is classified as a biological agent of group "2" in Legislative Decree 81/08:

"Agent that can cause human diseases and poses a risk to workers; it is unlikely to spread to the community; effective prophylactic or therapeutic measures are normally available ".

Contracting legionellosis is an inherent risk in different environments. At the moment, the Risk Evaluation is the only instrument that allows to approach the problem and it is recommended by the Guidelines for the prevention and control of legionellosis (approved in the State - Regions Conference on 7 May 2015).

This is basically an investigation whose purpose is to:

  • Identify the specific features of the operating structure and systems.
  • Identify the points that constitute a risk and their extent.
  • Intervene specifically and / or preventively in order to minimize the risk factors by bringing them back to an acceptable level.

NPC srl proposes a format to draw up the Legionellosis Risk Assessment based on the H.A.C.C.P., in order to analyze the risk through a scientific and therefore objective methodology.

The final document, to be updated periodically, classifies the concerned structure in a particular risk range, it indicates the frequency of microbiological monitoring and the actions to be taken in order to bring the risk back to an acceptable level and reestablish a certain "physiological" sense of the system itself.
